I loves me some Obi-Wan, but everyone knows this. XD I'm open to anything, from birth to death (and beyond), but I'd be especially curious to see how you might interpret his background or childhood versus Anakin's background or childhood.
Author's Notes/Summary: Third birthdays, in the temple crèche and a slave ship.

beatrice_otter: Elizabeth Bennet reads (Reading)
So, now that I'm home for Christmas, I've been entering all my books at home into LibraryThing. Out of curiosity, I checked the "Members with your books" widget. With all my books at seminary entered in but nothing else (as was the case until I came home), the top two people with my books were fellow classmates. With almost all of my library entered in, they're still the top two people with my books. Number 3 I don't know. And number 4 on the list is, drumroll please, [livejournal.com profile] jedibuttercup. Whose fanfic I've been a fan of for a long time, and who is my mutual friend on LJ. And who lives probably within a half-hour drive of my home, though we've never actually met in person.

Post a list of your top five fics favorite you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

This is hard, because my "favorite" tends to be whatever I'm working on atm. But I'll give it a shot.

My favorite fics:

Caro's Choice. Well, the first one isn't a fanfic, it's an original short story about a teenage girl living on Mars. It's not a Mary Sue, but it comes closer than anything else I've written, I think; it's also closer to early SF shorts than anything I've ever written. Since I'm fairly sure it's not online anywhere, here it is )

Adrift. To fly a Wraith hive ship, you must be a Wraith. I love it because it's one of those stories that feels more like I was a conduit for it than that I wrote it.

Pale Battalions. Teal'c goes home after a glorious battle in Apophis' name. Because pre-series Teal'c doesn't get enough love.

The rest of my favorites are all currently WIPs, which means they're not posted anywhere, but if I had to choose favorites of the ones that are posted online, here's how it would go.

Family Relationships. When Carter visits her father, she finds they both have surprises. Season 8. Because I love the Tok'ra and there isn't enough good Tok'ra fic out there, and it's the first part in a series, the third part of which I have an intense love/hate relationship with, and have had since November of 2004.

What She Wants. Because Faith is Fun.

I'm gonna copy [livejournal.com profile] kellifer_fic shamefully, and take the easy way out by just tagging all of you.

[livejournal.com profile] laney_1974 has been under a lot of stress lately, so to cheer her up I wrote this ficlet. It's a response to a tth100 drabble she wrote entitled Oops.

SG-1/BtVS crossover taking place in season three of BtVS (just prior to Lover's Walk, during the whole "clothes fluke" thing).
Rating: PG
Pairing: Willow/Daniel
Summary: A find-your-soulmate spell goes wrong.
Archiving: Laney's site, TTH, crossoverfic, ff.net, Wormhole Crossing. Anyone else please ask.

Witching Hour (the Oops remix) )

Someone on my Friends page had a link to this article about LJ and the definition of friends. It's fairly obvious to anyone who's ever spent any time on LJ, but written up in sociological terms.

The gist is this: the structure of the "friend" mechanism creates problems because there is no standard definition of friend. For some people it means "people who write interesting things that I want to read" and for some people it means a someone you enjoy talking/spending time with (like a friend out in the real world) and for some people it's a popularity contest.

So, here's my definition of an "LJ friend." When I friend people, it's usually because they've got interesting stuff for me to read, most often fanfic. It has very little to do with what I would consider a "friend" offline in real life. And I don't have the spare time to wade through a lot of other stuff. So if you've friended me and I haven't friended you, that's why.
