[community profile] startrekholidays just revealed! I wrote two fics, one assignment and one pinch hit. This fic, we matched on Guinan/Picard. I really thought hard about writing an AU of Time's Arrow where Picard ends up stuck in the past with Guinan instead of going back to the future/his present. So far, my first impulse for Guinan/Picard is very strongly towards writing episode related fic, far more than for other characters and pairings; I think it may be because there's so little Guinan fic that it feels like there are a lot of canon possibilities yet to be explored in a way that most characters and pairings really don't have. This is a short fic, but I'm pleased with it.

A Grief Shared

Summary: During the episode Family, Guinan comes to visit Jean-Luc at the vineyard.

At AO3. On tumblr. On Pillowfort.

Jean-Luc had been out wandering around the vineyard, soaking in the sun and indulging in a bit of nostalgia. That one cathartic mud fight with Robert hadn't cured all that was wrong with him, but that plus his decision to return to Enterprise and Starfleet had loosened up a bit of what had been locked tight within him. He could be more present in the moment than he had been, those first days home. There was still a good deal of work to do, putting himself back together from the ruin the Borg had left of his psyche; but he felt better up to it than he had before his leave.

Counselor Troi was right when she said that talking about it, instead of ignoring it, was an effective tool toward healing. Much as he would have preferred differently. )

This treat was actually the first thing I wrote for Rare Pairs this year; yes, I was a bad girl and wrote a treat before writing my assignment, but Picard/Guinan grabbed me by the throat a while back and there is so little content for the pairing I just had to. So here it is! (And if you're looking at this and thinking, "Picard/Guinan? What's she on?" you need to watch Time's Arrow and watch the way Picard looks at her. fans self) The title is from "I Could Write A Book," a classic song by Rogers and Hart. (Here's Harry Connick Jr. singing it on the When Harry Met Sally soundtrack.)

The lunch rush was over, and Guinan's staff was setting things to right and cleaning around the few lingering stragglers when Picard walked in. He often took lunch later in his shift than most people did to avoid the crowd.  )

Summary: Jean-Luc had many things to do when he returned from San Francisco of 1893. Reuniting with an old friend is one of them.

AN: You guys, if you've never shipped Guinan/Picard, I suggest you rewatch Time's Arrow I & II and pay extra attention to the scenes they share. Wow. I saw this as a pinch hit, thought it was an interesting idea (I'd never thought of Guinan/Picard) and re-watched Time's Arrow because I remembered it having lots of Guinan stuff, and I was blown away. The way he looks at her. He stayed behind in the past, not knowing if he'd ever get back to the 24th Century, because she needed help. I am a convert.

At AO3. On tumblr. On Pillowfort.

There were many things to do when Jean-Luc returned from San Francisco of 1893: a debriefing with Riker of all that had happened on board Enterprise since he had left, a medical examination, a long shower and a change into his own uniform. Tomorrow would be taken up with writing his own report and debriefing over subspace with a number of historians who specialized in Earth's 19th Century. But with the immediate chores done he could take some time to visit an old friend, and so he headed to Ten Forward.

He walked in the door, and paused: this was the Guinan he knew, in the setting he knew her in. He walked slowly to the bar, treasuring the very ordinariness of it.

Guinan looked him up and down, and smiled. )
