beatrice_otter: Me in red--face not shown (Take Ourselves Seriously)
I may have mentioned taking my brother out shopping along with his fiance and her family for new civvies. If not, it was a fun adventure in which a good time was had by all (except possibly my brother), despite the trouble we had making sure that he bought at least a few shirts that weren't checked.

Anyway, I was taking a study break and went back to Everybody's Crazy 'bout a Sharp Dressed Man, [livejournal.com profile] niamaea's hilarious look at Jacksonian Fashion Through the Years, and I realized that my brother's fashion sense is actually a lot like Daniel Jackson's.

Anna,
You have made a great leap that most men do not: that we care how we look. Let me help you out with that: sometimes, we just don't. When I care how I look, I put on a shirt and tie. Otherwise, I'm all about the jeans (or shorts) and a t-shirt (possibly long sleeve). Every once in a great while, I see the need for a suit, and occasionally (weddings, formal Army stuff, dances where I should) I actually put the money into a tux (or Bless Blues). But, for the most part, I couldn't care less. And, in my experience, neither could most guys.
Always,
Chris

Ok, I have to admit: I've never really gotten the checker shirts, either - I like plain, conservative shirts. Single color, you know the type - the kind that goes well with single-colored ties and very plain but crisp pants.
