Hey, guys, it's another action alert!  What do you guys think?  Do you find it helpful, or not?  Should I keep sharing these?  If so, for those of you getting this on DW, should I filter this so you can opt out?  On tumblr, would you like me to tag it in a particular way so you could block it?  I feel like there's been a lot of this, and while I hope that at least some people are finding this useful, I also think that (especially for the non-US-peeps out there) you shouldn't have to scroll past these if you're not interested.

I'll never post a link to a petition to sign; those do absolutely nothing.  I only pass on things to call or email your representatives about, and then only if there is a handy-dandy webpage to help with it.  (If there is an issue dear to your heart that I'm not posting on, I bet that if you google [ISSUE] activism [COUNTRY]" you will find groups that do activism, and may find action pages that will help you call/email/write your senators/congresscritters.  If not, you should at least get information sheets that will give you talking points if you want to call/email/write on your own.

On to the action alert!  The “Improving Child Nutrition and Education Act of 2016 (H.R. 5003)" is a bill that is misnamed if ever there was one; it's "improving" child nutrition in the US only if you think fewer kids deserve to get enough healthy food to eat.  It would drastically reduce the number of schools and children eligible for school nutrition programs (not on the basis of whether or not the need exists, mind you) and drastically increase the red tape needed to receive assistance from the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children program).  As if THAT wasn't enough, it will also roll back nutrition standards for schools.  All in all, a disaster of a bill.  But hopefully, if enough Congresscritters hear that their constituents think it stinks, they won't pass it, or will fix the problems.  Again, they don't much listen to online petitions ... but they do listen to direct individual calls and emails and letters.

The ELCA Advocacy group has a handy-dandy webpage for emailing your congresscritter on this issue.  Just go there, fill out your address and such, and click send, and it will go on its merry way!  (If you are not Lutheran, I would suggest editing the very first sentence with "As a Lutheran and your constituent ..." by either replacing "Lutheran" with your religious affiliation if you have one or just going with "As your constituent ..."

I appreciate the cut-tag so I can be aware it's there, but not click if I don't have the spoons.
