Help!

I have Dell laptop which I love dearly. The problem is, when it's unplugged, the monitor goes dimmer and is incredibly difficult to use if I'm in a place with normal lighting, and impossible if I want to go outside. I know this conserves power, but it makes the laptop almost unusable as a, you know, laptop since I have to keep it plugged in if I want to use it.

There's got to be some way to set it so that the monitor stays fully-bright when you unplug it. I've been all through the settings and power windows and haven't found it yet. Help!

So, after almost eight months, part two is finally ready to go. Sorry for the wait, folks. There will probably be more parts, but I'm planning on each part being relatively self-contained and ending at a logical stopping place, so don't worry about it being a WIP.
