So, I'm now with my church at Camp Victor in Mississippi to do hurricane relief work (yes, after several years only 40% of the Gulf Coast has been rebuilt). I brought my laptop down with me so I could at least write in the evenings.
The good news, which I did not expect given the primitive facilities, is that the entire place is wired for wireless!
... the bad news is that when I tried to boot up my laptop, it said that there was no device to boot up. It can't find the hard drive. And neither retrying nor running setup have any effect.
... the worse news is that I have no backup of anything on my computer. I'd been planning to start backing it up as soon as we got back from Mississippi.
I really, really hope that this is something where a good computer shop can hook something up to it and read stuff off the harddrive to get my stuff off--maybe it's just a connection problem in there somewhere. This is freaking terrifying.
