So there has been kerfluffle and wank over community norms and terminology between tumblr refugees and Ye Olde DW Hands.  Basically, what's the etiquette for sharing someone else's content (which seems to have been greatly magnified by tumblrites using "reblogging" for what DW peeps call "linking").  legionseagle has a roundup and some funny (albeit dense) British legal witicism about the whole thing.

Also, melannen has some thoughts on adult content warnings on DW, and what actually happens when you set your whole journal as 18+.

And given how long it's been since I've even HAD an LJ, maybe it's time to create a protest icon for DW?

I am saving the phrase 'kerfuffle and wank' because it is an excellent chewy word-dense phrase to say, and also good imagery for just what it is describing. Thank you.

You're welcome! Wank is, of course, the OLD fannish term for arguments between fans; that was the default, and only if there actually turned out to be something substantive did you get arguments called something else. I like that MUCH better than calling it "discourse" which assumes that any argument has deep sociological and social justice roots and so much of the time it doesn't (even if people try to paste it on on top). And kerfluffle because this particular instance was over so quickly.

Thank you for this! I migrated over here from Tumblr, although I fell in with a lot of DW veterans so I'm trying to copy them for community norms. I'm still learning the difference between the two platforms.

Well, partly it was an issue of competing terminology, and partly the OP listened when lots and lots of people freaked out, instead of getting up on their high horse, so it never got past the first round.

It was useful for seeing pictures from Related Endeavors and screen caps of tweets and also for putting interesting articles out as links. Not so much for blogging.
