beatrice_otter: I don't want to be killed because of a typo. It would be embarrassing. (Typo)
I have several ficathons coming up, plus my regular writing projects.

My [livejournal.com profile] remixredux08 fic is the first one due, but I'm mostly done with it, just need to polish it a little. I had to get it out of the way early because of

[livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang. 40k word story due in four months; if I can write an average of 350 words a day I can get it done in time. That's assuming it works out to being around 40,000 words and doesn't balloon up longer. My problem with long stories is that I suck at writing action, I really, really do. Also, I can do these cool things with characterization and plot and theme in short stories, but fail miserably at getting those into my longer stories, no idea why. (I think it's because I freak out over trying to write the action plot and focus on it while letting the rest fall by the wayside; we'll see if I can do better this time around.) Anyway, it's been a while since I successfully managed to actually finish a long story--I've got several long WIPs sitting around my hard drive that I'll work on for a few weeks and then forget about again. By giving myself a deadline and outside pressure, I'm hoping to actually finish something. I chose rare pairings, specifically Marshall Sumner/Elizabeth Weir; it's an AU where John Sheppard didn't go to Atlantis. They're now about six months in, and have only just encountered the Wraith (after all, without Sheppard there to turn on the tracker accidentally, the Wraith wouldn't have attacked Athos in Rising). Because I suck at action plots, I've kind of stolen the plot from Rising II and tweaked it to use as the action plot; the real focus is back on Atlantis with Sumner and Weir.

Then there's 500 words for this year's Multiverse (and this will be the last year of the challenge unless someone volunteers to take over, which makes me sad. I'm going to write Sheppard and Tenth Doctor; the other two prompts are for Kara Thrace, who is quite possibly my least favorite character in all of sci-fi tv.

And I still have two prompts left from the requests I got way back at the beginning of the month; sorry, [livejournal.com profile] erin_anderson and [livejournal.com profile] artemis10002000, I'll try to get them done by the end of the month.

I may try to squeeze in a ficlet for the [livejournal.com profile] sg_rarepairings fic battle tonight or tomorrow morning.

Of my fic not for ficathons or prompts, the one I'm focusing on right now is the Superman Returns long fic spawned by this plot bunny. [livejournal.com profile] ljs_lj has already written a wonderful fic based on it, Biopsychology, and is almost done with a sequel; I'd like to eventually get my own darn fic written--it is my plot bunny, after all. Except this story is kind of eating my brain, and it's great that I keep getting new insights into the characters and everything but I would like to know at least some of my characters' motivations before I sit down to write. It would make the process far less nerve-wracking. My hind-brain knows it, but my conscious mind doesn't, and it's making the writing go in fits and starts.

Spoilers: Episode 10x19 "Dominion"

Adria had little time to spare as the only Ori—a galaxy-wide war took much attention, even for an ascended being—but when she had time, she watched Vala. Her mother.

Not current events; others in the SGC were better for spying on. No, Adria watched her mother’s past. It amused her. Vala had been worshipped, had deceived her worshippers. If Vala had not chosen to become a goddess, no Goa’uld remained entirely free of the host’s influence. Once freed, Vala had used that worship on more than one occasion to her own profit.

Adria was just better at it.
