Zeus felt threatned by her knowledge, tricked her into transforming into a fly, and swallowed her while she was pregnant w/ Athena. After Athena was born (springing fully formed from Zeus's head - ow, painfull) Metis stayed in Zeus's head, advising him. THE LITERAL VOICE IN YOUR HEAD. :D
