I don't think Teal'c would agree with you about gaining "not really all that much." He's such a self-contained and self-sufficient person; he never gives the impression of needing a romantic relationship to make him happy. Not everyone does. (I mean, he's perfectly willing to have one if there's an appropriate woman available, but that's not the same thing as going looking for it or feeling something seriously missing without one.) Friends, sure, that's a different matter ... but he's got as close friends as he could ever wish in SG-1. The only close friends we know of him having pre-SG-1 were Valar (whom Apophis ordered killed) and Bra'tac. Yes, he deeply mourns the deaths of Drey'auc and Shaun'auc, but for him it's ultimately a small price to pay for the freedom he believed would never truly be possible. He doesn't always like the way his fellow Jaffa take advantage of that freedom, but that's a tradeoff you have to make, and he understands that; he also takes a long view (fairly common for those who can expect to live for 140 years, I would expect). Yeah, the period while they're figuring out what this "freedom" thing means is pretty rough. But it's not going to last forever.

He feels loss--sometimes a lot of loss!--but he knows it's worth it.

Thank you for reviewing!
