There's a new remix in town! If you don't know what a remix is, it's a fiction challenge where you are assigned a fanfic author who shares fandoms with you and you rewrite one of their stories. That is, you take the basic plot and pairings and do it the way you would have written it. Maybe you focus on the subplot instead. Maybe you amp up the romance ... or maybe you tone it down. (You can't eliminate a pairing entirely, but you can background it.) Maybe you tell it from a different point of view, or emphasize different themes. Maybe you expand the timeframe, to show what happens before and after the original story, or maybe you contract it, to focus on one moment that the original story glosses over. Maybe you take it apart and assemble the pieces in a really, really different way. Maybe your version is close to the original ... and maybe it's hard to recognize it as coming from the same source. The point is, it's really fun. (If you want to see examples, you can search for "remix" on AO3 and get like a thousand results. Or you can go through my fic list and look at all the fics with "remix" in the title. (The traditional title format for a remix is "Title (the ___ remix)" where ___ is something thematic or descriptive of your story and/or what you did in the process of remixing. So, for example, my two most recent remixes are "Vast Beyond Knowing (the Details Remix)" and "Pieced Together (The Memory Remix)".)

I used to do multiple remixes a year. There was the main multifandom remix (Remix Redux) and the Stargate Remix and the BSG remix and Femme Remix. But then I wasn't really active in SG and BSG and then even Remix Redux stopped. I was bummed.

But now I have found that there is a new multifandom remix!

remixrevival2018 ) (

remixrevival )is in its second year. It's pretty much the same as the old Remix Redux, except you don't have to nominate fandoms (you can sign up to be remixed in any fandoms you have enough completed stories/art), and you can sign up with art instead of fic, and the number of fic you need is a lot less. (Instead of 5 1k+ stories or 7 drabbles, you only need 3 500-word+ stories or 5 drabbles.)

Fandoms I could sign up to be remixed in are:
Stargate: SG-1, Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Star Wars: OT, Star Trek: Deep Space 9, Star Trek: AOS, Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles, Star Trek: TNG, Vorkosiverse, Superman Returns, Batman (Nolanverse), Agent Carter, and Batman Beyond.

I have in the past sometimes written stories in certain fandoms specifically so that I would be eligible to be remixed in those fandoms. Were I to do so this year, Superman (Reevesverse) and Chalion Saga would each require only one 500+ fic apiece, and Rivers of London two fics. Since signups aren't until July 12, that is certainly doable.

Fandoms I would offer to remix would be all of the above plus probably Wonder Woman, Black Panther, and Star Wars: PT.
