Yeah. Once you start paying attention, you start going, "wow, this is really kind of ... monotonous. I mean, it may be good, but so were the 9 million other versions of this story I've seen so far this year alone."

I don't know that "not about a white dude" stories average out to any better (or worse) in actual quality of the writing/plotting/characterization, but it's a lot less likely to be the same tired story I've seen before. The plot twist may be something I can't see coming.
