Fic wittering, lightbulb edition
Aug. 21st, 2011 11:31 pmWhen you're 13k words in to an approximately 20k-word story, it's awesome to finally figure out what the story's about. \o/ Now I just have to go back and edit the rest into shape when I'm done. I hope that with the editing it will stay above the 20k-minimum word count for
oc_bigbang; I've never done a Big Bang before, and have never had custom art done for one of my stories, and I'm really looking forward to it. (I did
trekreversebang last year for some awesome art, but the artist disappeared and the art was never finished, and the mods said I couldn't post the rough draft with the story. Which was a shame, because it was some great art.) Anyway, at this point it's looking like the rough draft will come out at only just slightly over 20k. (The bb limit is 15k words plus any you had before you signed up; I'm using an existing WIP that had about 5k words when I started, which means I need a minimum of 20k words.)
I'm already thinking about the beta I'm going to need. The story is about a Bajoran Starfleet officer, post-DS9, and the story has turned out to be about surviving the scars of the Occupation and rebuilding while dealing with the legacy of colonialism (from the Cardassians) and current unthinking privilege (from the Federation) and terrorism. As an educated middle-class American white woman, I'm thinking I'll need beta services from someone with a bit more personal experience in post-colonial life.
